Pretty Polly (The Keech in the Creel)

As pretty Polly went down the street
Some fresh meat for to buy
Her father he kept a clerk of a lad
And on her he cast an eye.

How will I get to your chamber, love,
Or how will I get to your bed
Your father he has all the doors locked
And the keys lie under his head.

Get a ladder newly built
With thirty steps and three
Reach it up to the chimney top
And come down in a creel tome.

He got a ladder newly built
With thirty steps and three
He reached it up to the chimney top
And down in the creel came he.

Not a wink could the old man get
But dreaming in his head
I'll bet you half a crown he said
There's a man in my daughter's bed..

Not a wink could the old hag get
Till she'd get up and see
Peeping her eye to the keyhole door
And not one could she see.

(There appear to be two lines missing here)
The stumbling block being in the floor
And into the creel goes she.

The comrade man being at the top,
To the rope he gave a pull
Philaloo, the ould hag cried
To the world I bid adieu.

The comrade man being at the top,
To the rope he gave a fall
Eleven of the old hags ribs were broke
And her snout against the wall.
